You don't know whether to choose EdT, EdP o Parfum? In this guide I will explain the differences, when to use them and how to make your perfume last longer.
Choosing a perfume doesn't just mean "I like it or I don't like it". Often it makes the difference concentration: Eau de toilette, Eau de parfum, Parfum… they change intensity, durability and also the way the fragrance develops on the skin.
In this guide you will find a simple method to understand what is really right for you, without confusion.
What changes between EdT, EdP e Parfum
The main difference is in quantity of aromatic oils (the “scented” part) dissolved in alcohol.
- Eau de toilette (EdT)
Lighter, fresh, often “brighter” at the start.
Ideal if you want a perfume from every day or for hot days. - Eau de parfum (EdP)
More intense and enveloping, with greater persistence.
Perfect if you are looking for a perfume that feel more and last a long time. - Parfum / Perfume Extract
The most concentrated version: a few vaporizations are enough.
Excellent for those who love important trails and the "signature" effect.
Important note: it is not a mathematical rule. The duration also depends on the olfactory family, ingredients and skin.
How long does a perfume really last? (realistically)
In media, on skin:
- EdT: circa 3–6 ore
- EdP: circa 5–8 ore
- Perfume/Extract: circa 8–12+ ore
On clothes and fabrics it can last much longer (but be careful: some perfumes can stain).

How to choose: 3 questions that make your life easier
1) You want it for day or evening?
- Day / office / routine: “Clean” and non-invasive EdT or EdP
- Sera / events / appointments: EdP o Parfum, warmer and more enveloping
2) Are you “light scented” or “dramatic”?
- If you like a discreet effect → EdT
- If you want it to be felt and leave presence → EdP
- If you want an intense and persistent signature → Parfum
3) What season is it??
- Spring/Summer: citrus fruits, aromatic, aquatic, clean (often light EdT/EdP)
- Autumn/Winter: amber, woody, spicy, vanilla (EdP/Parfum often top)
An underrated trick: the skin does half the work
The same fragrance can change a lot from person to person.
- Skin dry: tends to "eat" the perfume → better EdP/Parfum + hydration
- Skin fat: retains more → often even an EdT is enough
👉 Practical advice: before choosing, try the perfume on the skin and wait at least 30–60 minutes. The opening can be deceiving: true personality comes later.
How to make perfume last longer (without exaggerating)
- Moisturizes the skin (even a neutral cream is fine)
- Spray in “hot” spots: neck, clavicole, wrists, inner elbow
- Don't rub your wrists: breaks the evolution of the notes
- Do “layering” whenever possible: shower gel/cream from the same line
- A splash on clothes (from a distance) can increase persistence

Common mistakes that ruin the experience (and the perfume)
- Spraying too much “because it doesn't last” (often just changing concentration is enough)
- Try 5 perfume together and decide immediately
- Store perfume in the bathroom (heat and humidity ruin it)
- Always keep the bottle in direct light
Ideal conservation: cool place, dry and protected from light.
Mini quick guide: which one to choose?
If you want:
- Freshness and lightness → EdT
- Balance between presence and duration → EdP
- Maximum intensity and persistence → Perfume/Extract
Conclusion
There is no "right" choice for everyone: there is the right one for the, for your day and your style. If I know undecided, the simplest advice is this:
✅ EdP if you want a "universal" and long-lasting perfume
✅ EdT if you love freshness and daily use
✅ Parfum if you are looking for a signature effect, intense and long
